WE BELIEVE

At Situla we believe children, and especially children with individual needs will benefit from a program designed around their needs. An individualised educational plan means one that is designed to meet the unique educational needs of one individual child. The individualised educational plan describes how your child learns, how he/she best demonstrates that learning, and what teachers and service providers will do to help your child learn more effectively.

It is our aim to assist learners to overcome their barriers to learning and develop to their full potential. It is our firm belief that given the right environment and educational approach, children will not only learn but excel. Our aim is to also support the parents of children with special learning needs.

VISION
It is our firm belief that given the right environment and educational approach children will not only learn but excel.

MISSION
We dedicate ourselves to a stimulating, balanced programme, which is sensitive to the needs of the individual child.
We aim to lead in the effective development and use of innovative learning systems, turning our educational ideas into reali
ty.

Situla Pre-school
As special needs teachers we realise that the wellbeing of a child does not happen in isolation.  The task of effectively educating a child with special needs is too complex for only one person to do alone.  Instead the expertise, input, and actions of many support networks need to be integrated to create the conditions and support for children to excel.

Child development involves physical, social, intellectual and emotional learning. Our quality program at Situla will offer children a variety of activities and play materials that foster all these skills. It will provide ample space for activity play, an abundance of age appropriate toys and child size equipment, a quiet area for individual play. Research has proven that children with special learning needs do well in a structured environment. Children will be given a daily balance between indoor and outdoor play, active and quiet times, group and individual activities, an opportunity to initiate activities, and a daily routine they can become familiar with and anticipate.

Our curriculum covers all aspects of pre-school readiness including the development of large motor skills (including large building blocks, vehicles, balance beam) and small motor skills (including puzzles, blocks, string beading, scissor use etc.). We help to develop letter, number, colour and shape recognition, opposites and sequencing, reading readiness with the use of alphabet builders, computers, books and teacher-directed games. The curriculum is made up of weekly themes to assist in language development and vocabulary building. We help to develop the social behaviour necessary for children to succeed in a classroom setting. Skills such as listening, following rules, sharing and taking turns are fostered during each day when we discuss the calendar, weather and read stories.

Our aim is to support learners through clear, attainable tasks and activities, allowing enough time and multiple opportunities for the learner to master the task and to experience success thus building their confidence. Specialised education also involves ensuring that all support systems are available. This suggests that education should be a multidisciplinary approach with access to a variety of recourses. The team at Situla is made up of qualified staff with a background in child psychology including specialised teachers, an educational psychologist and a play therapist. Situla offers additional or specialised support through a range of support strategies including smaller class sizes, interventions by specially trained staff and the availability of specific resources.  Our programme includes intervention by Kinderkineticist, Occupational therapist, Play therapist and Educational Psychologist, speech and language therapist and remedial teaching.
